IMITATE THE ONENESS OF THE HOLY TRINITY

Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in his message on the occasion of the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity on June 7, 2020.

In his video message, Bishop Ongtioco invited us to look back to the promise of the Lord to send His only begotten Son to save the people from their sins. After the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, He then sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles for them to continue and profess the Good News.

“Sa kapistahan sa pagpaparangal natin sa Banal na Santissima Trinidad, ating makikita yung unity, pakikipag-ugnayan ng tatlong persona… Kaya naman katulad ng pangako niya, sinugo ng mapagmahal na Ama ang Banal na Espiritu na nagbigay ng tatag at lakas upang ipagpatuloy ang misyon ni Hesus,” Bishop Ongtioco said.

The Feast of the Holy Trinity, coincides with the celebration of Basic Ecclesial Community Sunday as declared by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. This year, it is celebrated online with the theme “Hamon, Tugon at Pag-asa ng BEC.”

The prelate related the unity of the Holy Trinity to the oneness of the Basic Ecclesial Communities in fighting the COVID19 pandemic.

He said that this crisis can either “make or break” the faith of a person. Therefore, BEC’s are being challenged to empower others.

He added that the pandemic has left the people hungry, jobless, and some are beginning to lose hope. These losses will test our faith, but it can also strengthen our trust in the Lord.

“Ang pandemyang ito, maaaring gawin kang matatag, maging tunay na mananampalataya o marahil susuko tayo, pero precisely that’s why we are celebrating the Feast of the Trinity para magkaroon tayo ng pagninilay, lakas na tignan ang buong pangyayari sa malawak na paraan.”

To give light during these dark times, Bishop Ongtioco asks the faihful to look upon the Holy Trinity and imitate their oneness in our communities.

“Maraming tinurong aral itong ating nararanasan… kung magtutulong-tulong [tayo] aangat ang bawat isa. Kaya ang solusyon at ang tugon natin bilang BEC ay katulad ng Santissima Trinidad. Tayo ay makipag-ugnayan sa isa’t-isa; magtulungan sa mga pangangailangan,” he said.

Bishop Ongtioco recognized that a lot of people have responded to the cries of those in need. Communities and charities have come together to lend a hand and help as one community to fight against this pandemic.

The prelate ended his message with the hope that this pandemic will not leave the people hopeless but with strengthened faith in God and His promises. – by Sophia Castañeda
